Upcoming Fights | Fight Results No list of top Canadian fighters is complete without mentioning Georges St-Pierre. In fact, you might as well dismiss any such list that doesn’t feature GSP at the top. He has a professional record of 20-2 with 15 of those wins coming in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), which is recognized as the predominant mma organization in the world. He has won 30 consecutive rounds – a UFC record – and outstruck his opponents 1067 to 367 (an almost 3 to 1 ratio). He’s sitting on an eight-fight win streak (the second longest in UFC history) with five successful defenses of his welterweight title, tying the UFC record set by Matt Hughes. There is currently ... Read more »

Dana White called Georges St-Pierre the most famous athlete to ever come out of Canada. The Canadian media had a fit, calling out “Gretzky, Gretzky”. But Dana White pointed out that GSP can go anywhere in the world and be recognized, because mma is a globally enjoyed sport. Hockey, on the other hand…. White makes the example of going to the Philippines and seeing St-Pierre mobbed. That wouldn’t happen to Wayne Gretzky in the Philippines. The media point out that Gretzky can’t go anywhere in Canada without being recognized, while St-Pierre could go most places – especially when there is no UFC event coming up – without being recognized. Certainly that would be the case. And White can’t understand why ... Read more »

USA!” At UFC 124 in Montréal, Canada, there are seven – count ‘em, seven! – Canadians on the card. You can very well expect to hear the partisan crowd chanting “Canada! Canada!” Canadians are a humble and soft-spoken bunch, as a matter of course. But put a group of us together in a room with a fellow Canuck to cheer on and we become suddenly patriotic. We showed this during the Olympics. And now we are ready to show the world once more, via UFC 124. Canadians are going to support the UFC and mma regardless of who is on the ... Read more »

A rematch between former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le (6-1 MMA, 6-1 SF) and Scott Smith (17-6 MMA, 3-1 SF), will no doubt be an exciting slugfest. Le dominated the entire fight in their last fight, but was caught by a vicious punch from the dangling Smith....thus defeating the Sanshou legend.

All eyes will be on Vancouver June 12 when the city hosts its first major sanctioned mma event. And it doesn't get more "major" than the UFC, who took it upon themselves to lobby the local government for sanctioning. They've held three events in Montréal and want very desperately to expand through all of Canada, to take advantage of the second largest mma audience in the world.
