Their latest show includes guess mma analysist Pat Miletich, joining Jon Anik and Franklin McNeil. Kenny Florian is usually partnered with Franklin, but Pat Miletich is standing in for this episode.
In this video episode, predictions are given for WEC 47 main card. Also discussed is the recent signing of future boxing hall of famer James Toney to the UFC. ESPN Radio host Steve Cofield also gives a preview of TUF 11, and his enthusiasm for yet another potentially improved show. Mr. Big Muscle UFC newcomer Todd Duffee makes an appearance and discusses his purpose for fighting at the current moment. Duffee, holding the UFC’s fatest knockout honors is slated to fight Chicagoan Mike Russow (12-1), who’s both a mma veteran, and a veteran Chicago Police Officer. Russow has 8 wins by submission….AND 7 of them are from different submission holds!
Strikeforce CEO Steve Coker is interviewed and tackles a plethora of topics across mma. He talks about Fedor Emelianenko not being included on the May card, King Mo Lawal, and the booking of Japanesse sensation Shinya Aoki and the signing of Andrei Arlovski. Coker gives us Arlovski’s next opponent.
Also, Frye gives his candid opinions on other professional sports figures coming into mma.
If you like all-out backyard brawls between two guys at the height of their manhood and blunt courageousness, then you’ll love the classic mma fight video of UFC Legend Don Frye vs. Japan’s mma fighter and professional wrestler Yoshihiro Takayama!
Don Frye, UFC veteran
This fight, which took place in June of 2002, displays arguably the greatest fighting spurts and exchanges in the history of mma! Don “The Predator” Frye (20-8) recently said that he’s probably done fighting. However, the 44 year old says he’s always open to the right fight … for the right money. Frye is quite possibly a future UFC Hall of Famer, having started out his career 15-1, beating many notable fighters.
Tom Selleck, actor
Frye is also a two-time UFC Tournament Champion, both in 1996. He’s one of mma’s most rugged and toughest personalities, having had a few disagreements with Dana White in the past; he has had his share of run-ins with a few others in and around and near the mma world with his brash and say-as-you-go rhetoric. Frye also gets credit from many people as he has a slight resemblance to actor Tom Selleck … if you’re comparing the 1980’s cop mustache.

Although I’m partisan toward ring entrances where the figher himself is being active in the walk out. But sometimes, the fighter theatrics aren’t Read more »

It isn’t documented as to who exactly should be credited for introducing music and/or dancing to ring entrances from sports such as boxing, mma, and professional wrestling. Hall of Fame pro wrestler (WWF) Sergeant Slaughter has claimed to reinstate the idea of music for ring entrances in the 1970’s for wrestlers making their entrance to the fight. And this idea was further exacerbated in the 1980’s by wrestlers such as Macho Man Savage, the Fabulous Freebirds, and JYD … to name a few.
In the world of boxing, the history of ring entrance color and themes probably goes back to the 1940’s and 1950’s as some boxers wore colorful robes to the ring for their fights. Some say that Larry Holmes was one of the first popular boxers to start playing music upon entering the ring. And of course it was a disco song, seeing that he fought in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.
As for the showboating aspect of ring entrances, pro boxers seem to take this idea and run with it in the mid to late 1980’s with fighters such as Hector Camacho. I guess Mike Tyson didn’t get the memo, as he simply walked to the ring with no flash at all. Mike’s ring entrances were like pro wrestler The Undertakers’ ring entrance with no music; SCARY!
Nowadays, ring entrances are more and more extravagant. And the most extravagant and flashy ones are probably coming out of Japan and the UK. In the recent past of boxing, fighters such as the Klitschkos and Prince Naseem Hamed took this phenomenon to a new level. But I’d like to differentiate the difference here. Hamed was more of a performer with his entrances, and the Klitschkos simply looked like they had nothing to do with the display to the ring. I tend to like those fighters that put on a show. In mixed martial arts, we’re now seeing more fighters come up with fun ring entrances or what they think are cool looking.
On September 19th, the UFC and Boxing will go head to head on the same night. UFC 103 (Rich Franklin vs. Vitor Belfort) doesn’t have the big named fighters on this card, but they surely have the momentum in their favor with their very nice showings in their last few ppv events.
In the boxing match, we’ll be seeing the return of Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather going up against the very tough and rugged and elite boxer Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather is coming off a semi-retirement, and is still undefeated at 35-0, and has done quite well in his fights drawing a very high amount of ppv viewers. This should be quite interesting. The last time boxing and the UFC went head to head, the very popular Manny Pacquiao was fighting. I’m not sure what the comparative numbers were for that night. But I did attend a bar that was showing both the boxing and UFC fights simultaneously. It was indeed a great night for those that are both boxing and mma fans. I’m hoping to find a bar that will show both. Read more »
