Lyoto Machida & UFC 104…Machida’s First Lost?

This Saturday, Oct. 24th, 2009, the UFC holds yet another ppv event. UFC 104 will feature arguably the best current fighter in the world in Lyoto Machida. He faces his toughest opponent to date. This fight would be major even amongst the casual mma fan if these 2 guys were of American decent. This fight is a mega fight. Because Machida is so heavily favored is why some don’t see this as a mega fight. Both guys are Brazilian. Machida (10-0) is a second decent Japanese-Brazilian.
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (18-3) is a long time veteran mma’er, despite only being 27 years old. He’s been fighting for 8 years. Machida’s 31 years old. Shogun is an impressive light heavyweight, and former Pride middleweight Grand Prix tournament winner 5 years ago. 15 of Rua’s 18 wings have come via knockout. Quite impressive, especially considering that 13 of those 15 k.o’s have come in the 1st round! Rua has wins over Liddell, Overeem(twice), Coleman, Sobral, Ricardo Arona, and Rampage Jackson….all by way of knockout! Shame on those true mma fans for doubting Rua’s chances in this match so heavily! This fight is for the King of Brazil. This fight will draw interest from around the world of mma and its fan base.
What’s impressive as well is the Cain Velasquez vs. Kenosha, Wisconsin’s very own Ben Rothwell. Cain (6-0) is the latest in the UFC supposed “hype machine.” Cain is a very proud Mexican-American, and feels that he’s next in line to be an elite Mexican fighter and especially as a heavyweight fighter. Big Ben (30-6) finally has been able to crack the UFC roster as a heavyweight after toying around in smaller circuits as well as smaller established ones. He has a very nice story in the video below. Either fighter will be in line for a heavyweight title shot after this fight. And this speaks well to Rothwell’s talents who’s a UFC newcomer, who’s was the IFL’s best heavyweight.
