September 19th: Boxing or UFC?

On September 19th, the UFC and Boxing will go head to head on the same night.  UFC 103 (Rich Franklin vs. Vitor Belfort) doesn’t have the big named fighters on this card, but they surely have the momentum in their favor with their very nice showings in their last few ppv events.

In the boxing match, we’ll be seeing the return of Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather going up against the very tough and rugged and elite boxer Juan Manuel Marquez.  Mayweather is coming off a semi-retirement, and is still undefeated at 35-0, and has done quite well in his fights drawing a very high amount of ppv viewers.  This should be quite interesting.  The last time boxing and the UFC went head to head, the very popular Manny Pacquiao was fighting.  I’m not sure what the comparative numbers were for that night.  But I did attend a bar that was showing both the boxing and UFC fights simultaneously.  It was indeed a great night for those that are both boxing and mma fans.  I’m hoping to find a bar that will show both.      Any ideas for the Chicagoland areas.

The Mayweather/Marquez fight will also be able to be viewed in specified movie theatres.  Boxing has done this before.  So, this should only help the revenue and viewer count for boxing.  They may need the boost…

I just don’t find it entertaining. I understand how others do, and I respect that. As I said, when I see two people fighting, all I can think is of the strategy of mma. If I’m watching boxing, it immediately becomes boring when I realize they can only punch each other, especially since they are using those big puffy gloves. :p

FYI, Floyd Mayweather’s nickname should be printed *ahead* of his first name, as it is clearly a play on the famous gangster, Pretty Boy Floyd. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Boy_Floyd
As far as the main context of this post … every time I watch boxing I can’t help but think “shoot”, or “leg-kick”. Then I realize it’s boxing and I get bored and turn it off. So you can guess where my TV will be tuned, regardless of the names involved….

Jane, you’re very correct on how to say Mayweather’s name. I thought about that too; besides, it sounds better to say “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather. Also, are ya spewing negatives towards boxing?! :-) Personally, I’m still very much a boxing fan, but it’s safe to say now that I’m bigger MMA fan, except when boxing puts on a big ppv main event, such as the Mayweather/Marquez fight. I must seek out a spot that will be showing both events on ppv simultaneously.
