The skinny on female fighter Jan Finney!
Jan Finney makes her Strikeforce debut this Saturday, June 26th. She’s fighting the dominant featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.
Finney has a rather lacklustre record of 8-7, but her record is misleading! I’ve seen the Vegas spread as well as many comments on the various mma message boards. No one is giving Finney a chance to compete, let alone win this matchup. I just want to point out that Strikeforce didn’t simply pluck someone from the amateur ranks to give Cris Cyborg a tune-up fight.
Finney’s losses have come against top competition. She lost to wmma pioneer Shayna Baszler. And she lost via overtime decision to Miesha Tate (referee decision). As well, she lost to Erin Toughill after taking the fight to a decision. And 3 of her losses were to the same fighter.
Finney normally fights at bantamweight, so this fight is a move up in weight classes. In the photos from yesterday, she appears to be as big – or bigger – than Cyborg.

Jan Finney vs. Cris Cyborg (champ)
Jan Finney (8-7; 4 knockouts) is riding a four fight win streak, including a defeat of top-ranked Adrienna Jenkins (17-4) in her last fight.
MMA is all about what you have done lately. And Finney has clearly been a better fighter in the last two years (5-1). Finney is a powerful and athletic fighter who specializes in muay thai and boxing and spends her leisure time with boyfriend and fellow mma fighter Mike Patt.
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, at age 24, is a powerful female mma fighter from Brazil. Many feel that with her superior strength and striking, she’s close to unbeatable. She is the current Strikeforce featherweight champion with a career mma record of 9-1 with seven knockouts. She is 3-0 since joining Strikeforce. Her disciplines include muay thai and brazilian jiu-jitsu.
With the skills of both of these fighters, don’t be surprised if this match winds up being the Fight of the Night. Both fighters prefer to stand, punch and kick, so we should expect a great battle.

Damn! That bitch can take a beating! Definitely the most entertaining fight of the night
Much respect goes out to Jan Finney. She was fearless. Cyborg was the best she’s ever shown, and Finney kept at it. She even messed up Cyborg’s face more than Gina Carano did. After this performance, there’s no way Strikeforce will cut Finney. Despite an 8-8 record, she’s one of the better featherweights in the world.
And what was funny is that the ring announcer announced the winner (Cyborg) as a middleweight, lmao!
