ADDENDUM (6/3/2010):
Charles Bennett is out for the KJ Noons rematch.  Apparent scheduling conflicts have led to the removal of the always controversial Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett from June’s “Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Werdum” event, and original opponent K.J. Noons Noons (8-2 MMA, 0-0 SF) has been moved up to Strikeforce’s June 16 event in Los Angeles.

ADDENDUM:
Charles “Crazy Horse” Bennett quickly rebounds and signs to rematch KJ Noons, at Strikeforce in June.  Bennett surprised in the first match and knocked the undefeated Noons silly in their first bout.

Unfortunately, Shine Fights: Mayorga Vs. Din Thomas (For 5/15/10) was cancelled! Wow, for us mma fans this is very disappointing. Get the full breakdown at mmajunkie.com.

Twitter(ShineFights): “Don King had a plan to ruin our show and he was able to get that done by bringing 1,000,000.00 in cash to the court room.”

Twitter(ShineFights): “To all of the fans who were looking forward to Shine 3 we are very sorry with the out come of the ruling with the judge. We hope that you have faith in our company and understand that we did everything in our power to make this fight happen.”

Shine Fights returns from its last event on September 4th.   Shine Fights is an up and coming mixed martial arts organization dedicated to the promotion of matching good fighters against each other.  They do not shy away from popular opinion, and come this Saturday, they intend to put this to the task.

You have two fighters (Mayorga & Bennett) that have garnered publicity, even if it hasn’t always been on the positive side.  One of these fighters on the card is the former boxing champion from Nicaragua, Ricardo Mayorga (36), making his mma debut, after having apparently finished his boxing career.  He will be the most decorated boxer to ever make the transition into mma.  He is the former WBA/WBC Welterweight champion and the former WBC Junior Middleweight champion. He holds a record of 28-7 with 22 knockouts and 1 draw, 1 no contest.   He has wins against Vernon Forrest (twice), and Fernando Vargas.  He’s been defeated by the likes of Shane Mosley, Oscar DeLaHoya, Felix Trinidad, and Corey Spinks.

MAIN CARD

  • Ricardo Mayorga vs. Din Thomas
  • David Heath vs. Murilo “Ninja” Rua
  • Eduardo Pamplona vs. Nick Thompson
  • Braulio Estima vs. Rick Hawn
  • Alexandre Ferreira vs. Jamal Patterson

PRELIMINARY CARD

  • Luiz Azeredo vs. Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett
  • Mario Staples vs. Zac George
  • Paulo Souza vs. Roger Carroll

In the crazy pre-fight press conference video below, you’ll see why Mayorga has angered many people with his controversial style of trash-talking and hyping up a fight.  One thing is for sure … I can’t wait to see this brawl with UFC vet Din Thomas!

Din Thomas has been heard on a few occasions voicing his thoughts on who’s better between mma fighters and boxers – sometimes emphatically.  Now the UFC veteran gets his chance to back up his notions against a very worthy boxer.  Thomas (33) has a record of 25 wins, with 8 losses, including 14 wins via submission and 7 by ko.   He has key wins over Jens Pulver, Matt Serra, Rich Clementi, Clay Guida, and Jeremy Stephens, with losses to Josh Neer, Kenny Florian, Cael Uno (twice), and BJ Penn.

—–Judo Olympian, 3x US judo champ
Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett
—–PRIDE/EliteXC veteran
—–22-16; 14 KOs
—–wins over KJ Noons, Yoshiro Maeda
—–somehow he’s likable, because he’s so off the wall with  his antics.   »Video«
—–once made his ring entrance talking on his cell phone
—–lengthy criminal background including assault and possession of drugs
—–has drawn criticism from the MMA community by claiming that ground fighting “is like making love, it’s not real fighting.”
—–5 wins via submission
—–known for his cocky arrogance, often playing to the camera, insulting other fighters, and even disrespecting the referee, both during interviews and in the ring
Zac George

—–finished 14 fights in the 1st round

One thing is for sure: this event will be fun to watch.  And Mayorga will surely bring over a host of boxing fans into the world of mma.   Sounds like another win for us fight fans.  Ricardo, albeit controversial, will surely excite his fights by all means necessary.  By all means….
