O Canada #3 … UFC 113

By Jane W.

UFC 113 posterWhen the UFC stages an event in the UK, they have a few British fighters on the card. A few months ago, when they were in Australia, there were a few Aussie fighters on the card. So it’s no surprise that UFC 113 in Montréal – the promotion’s third visit to the Great White North – will feature a number of Canadian fighters. Seven, to be exact, with two on the main card.

These aren’t no-name fighters to humour the host country. You’ll get to see both Sam Stout (four-time Fight of the Night winner) and Patrick Côté battle against top fighters Jeremy Stephens and Alan Belcher, respectively.

Côté returns to the cage for the first time since the knee injury he suffered at the hands of Anderson Silva in their Middleweight championship match at UFC 90.

Sam Stout

#2 Ranked Canadian Lightweight Sam Stout

Stout is coming off two unanimous decision wins over Matt Wiman and Joe Lauzon. Both matches garnered Fight of the Night honours.

On the preliminary card, #1 ranked Canadian middleweight Jason MacDonald kicks off the night against American John Salter. MacDonald has three Submission of the Night awards, and a Knockout of the Night, which he dealt to fellow Canadian Joe Doerksen, the #3 Canadian middleweight, who closes out the preliminary card with a match against Tom Lawlor.

Jonathan Goulet, TJ Grant and Tim Hague are also battling Americans on the undercard. We can only hope they will be quick enough and entertaining enough to be replayed on the main broadcast.

Hey, I’m not dense. I realize the main event is the big draw. Hell, it’s huge, what with the first matchup between these two Brazilian warriors ending in such a controversial decision. But for we Canadians, it’s always nice to see the “local” guys thrown in there too.

I’m getting more and more excited about this event. I suspect I should be more hyped at this point considering the rematch main event. But I wonder if I’m feeling overloaded by all the spectacular events that have come and past, as well as those that are coming up in this month along. Wow, what a splendid 6 week period of fights this has and will be!!!

I’m sure your fellow Canadians will be energetic and very enthusiastic…..as they always behave.
