One of the most anticipated mma events in recent time is finally upon us as Strikeforce gives us an elite main card of notable fighters.  There’s a little bit of everything for all sorts of mma fans encompassing this event.   And the best part about it is that it’s all free for mma fans in the USA and those watching on cable in Canada, as it will be broadcast live on CBS (tape-delayed on the west coast).

It’s unheralded to find 3 title fights all on one card.  And this coming Saturday, a ton of mma fans will tune in to see a potentially action-packed and high drama fight card.

Where To Watch Strikeforce Locally….

In the main event, submission ace and middleweight champion Jake Shields welcomes former UFC and Pride champion Dan Henderson to Strikeforce.  After a long contract dispute with the UFC, Henderson decided to sign with Strikeforce.   And in his first fight, he was granted his wishes as he tries to add a 3rd belt to his gloried fighting career.   Some would say that if you looked up ‘American wrestling’ in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Dan Henderson.  “Hendo” trains primarily in Greco-Roman, collegiate wrestling, and kickboxing.  So we have here, Shields and his numerous submission fighting championships facing off against Hendo and his many wrestling and grappling championships.

In other action, the confident and brash talking Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal steps way up in competition when he challenges Iranian-Armenian fighter Gegard Mousasi.  Mousasi fights out of the Netherlands, and trains under the discipline of judo and kickboxing.   Mousasi is the polar opposite of King Mo’s sociable and outgoing personality.  However, both are equally liked by fans throughout mixed martial arts.   King Mo has some of the best collegiate wrestling credentials to ever fight in mma.    Mousasi won mma titles on 3 different occassions, including Fighter of the Year in Europe (2009).    We will see if Stikeforce’s light heavyweight champion Mousasi will be the first to put a blemish on Lawal’s undefeated record, and finally press the mute button on his opponent’s mouth.  The 2 have engaged in much soft-hearted verbal jabbing, mainly perpetuated by Lawal.

Shinya Aoki

Japanese sensation and submission expert Shinya Aoki finally brings his talents to America, and faces off against Strikeforce’s lightweight champion, the proud Mexican-American Gilbert Melendez.  This is a title shot, despite Aoki belonging to Dream.   This fight was made possible with Strikeforce’s progressive vision of putting on fights with fighters that the fans want to see.  Aoki is the current Shooto (LW), Dream (LW), and World Alliance (MW) champion.  If Aoki wins, he’ll be taking Strikeforce’s lightweight belt back to Japan with him; we can only hope that it doesn’t take an entire year for him to defend it.

CBS and Strikeforce also intend to air a fourth fight this Saturday.  MTV’s host of Bully Beatdown and middleweight contender Jason “Mayhem” Miller and his red rooster hairdo will fight relatively unknown mma fighter Tim Stout, who has only had four of his fifteen fights go beyond the first round.
