Ban Skirts!

When Zoila Frausto entered the cage for her match against Miesha Tate at Strikeforce: Challengers last week, she wore a skirt that was reminiscent of Roman soldier attire. It was basically plates of cloth instead of a full skirt. I thought it was cute and kinda cool. But when she and Tate began to grapple, it occurred to me that this incredibly loose-fitting garment was not unlike a gi, which is illegal to wear in the octagon. For obvious reasons, women’s fight-wear includes a top. From what I have seen, they are usually very tight-fitting tops, that don’t in any way aid or hinder a fighter or her opponent.

As cute as these skirts look, I’d like to see them banned from mma. When women get in the cage, they should wear shorts just like everyone else. They don’t have to be tight bicycle shorts like Georges St-Pierre. But even the big, baggy Chuck Liddell shorts are less loose than these skirts.
