In a huge upset recently at WEC 47, Joseph Benavidez wins destroys the former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Angel Torres….winning via submission (Guillotine Choke). But that was only half the story from this fight.
Before slapping on his pitbull-like choke from the standing position then taking it down to the ground, Benavidez cracked Torres with one of the most devasting elbows you’ll see in mma. The stike caused massive damage to Torres forehand, as blood spewed out from Torres face like a running faucet.
The video below shows just how Benavidez finished off Torres, as demonstrated by Submission 101.
The problem Torres had in his attempts to escape Benavidez’ guillotine submission choke was the fact that one of Torres’ arms was trapped. The video below doesn’t show you how to escape the guillotine if your free arm is trapped.
It’s unfortunate that the vicious elbow occurred. But it was evident that the fight wasn’t going to go pass the first round due to the massive amount of blood and the severely deep and long cut that was right above the eye of Torres. Torres actually complained thereafter that the referee should have stopped the fight. Nonetheless, that’s a moot point now. Torres was once looked upon as unbeatable at the bantamweight class. However, he’s now lost his last two fights. Now, Benavidez moves up the ladder and may get a title shot in his next 2 fights.
